Sister Mary Prema Pierick, Mother Teresa’s successor visit Las Tunas
The Congregation of Missionaries of Charity of Las Tunas, invite you to share with the community the happiness of this visit with the celebration of the Holy Mass on 30th June at 4:00 p.m. in St. John Bosco Parish in La Victoria neighborhood in Las Tunas city.
Sister Mary Prema Pierick, whose name in Sanskrit means love, is the Superior General of the Missionary Sisters Charity, the religious congregation founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta, now St. Teresa.
She was born Mechthild Pierick in a farming community in Reken, Germany. In 1980, after reading the biography of the foundress, Something Beautiful for God by Malcolm Muggeridge, she went to meet Mother Teresa in Berlin. She felt called to join her work and moved to India to join the Missionaries. She succeeded Sister Nirmala Joshi as Superior General on March 24, 2009, elected on the first ballot and heading an institute which had over 5,000 members worldwide at that time.
The congregation of the Missionary Sisters Charity is present in 139 countries with more than 5300 sisters who carried the congregation goal: to satiate the Jesus thirst in the Cross for the souls love.
Her presence in Cuba began in 1986, taking place its first foundation in Havana. Actually they are 46 sisters at 10 homes, nine of active sisters in Havana, Isla de la Juventud, Pinar del Río, Cárdenas, Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila, Las Tunas, Bayamo, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo; and one of contemplative sisters in El Cobre.
In the Diocese of Holguín they are present in the city of The Tunas since August 12th of 1991.
